Future Leaders Outreach Network (FLON)
Future Leaders Outreach Network (FLON) is a community and faith-based capacity-building organization. FLON has provided developmental opportunities for youth between the ages of 10 - 21 since 1999.
FLON has a 14 year history of serving at-risk, African American, Hispanic and other youth in both Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan areas.
FLON teaches adolescents to pursue their dreams by setting behavioral boundaries from drugs, alcohol, violence, and all sexual activity. Parent education workshops and other activities are provided for parents, caregivers and other stakeholders.
Our mission is to provide adolescents and families with skills that empower them to set goals, become effective leaders, pursue economic well-being, and make healthy choices.
We build the capacity of youth to make healthy decisions and to be self-sufficient by providing them evidence based curriculum education.
We build the capacity of parents, caregivers and collaborative partners by providing parent education workshops, curriculum training and organizational capacity building workshops.
To address the social and emotional well-being of the targeted teens, in our targeted communities FLON has developed the programs utilizing the framework of the 40-developmental assets of Search Institute®.
As a result of the youth and family programs implemented that reported statistically significant outcomes, the Pursue Your Dreams (PYD) Initiative program model was published in the 2011 American Journal Health Studies (AJHS) Click here.
